Building the Client

You can create a client application for the WCF service in one of several ways:

  • Use Visual Studio and create a Service Reference to the intended web service endpoint.

  • Use svcutil.exe to auto-generate the necessary proxy types and/or configuration.

  • Use the provided client proxy found in Experlogix.Services.WebConfigurator.Contracts.dll. This is the most straightforward approach:

  1. Create or open a project that targets the .NET Framework 4.7.2

  2. Reference the following DLLs (found in \Web\Support\WebConfigSvc folder in the installer package):

    • Experlogix.Common.dll

    • Experlogix.MPC.Common.dll

    • Experlogix.Services.WebConfigurator.Contracts.dll

    • ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.dll

  3. Your application should also reference the following Microsoft assemblies:

    • System.Runtime.Serialization

    • System.ServiceModel

Setting up the service on the server generally requires establishing a certificate for message encryption. Each client of the service must also have this certificate available. The sample code in this document assumes that the certificate is installed in the current user’s Root certificate store.

While such a certificate is generally recommended, it is not a strict requirement and the service can be configured without it.

The Experlogix Web Configurator Service acts as a programmable intermediary between your code and the Experlogix Web Configurator. As such, and due to the nature of the Web Configurator, the service operates on the notion of ASP.NET Session State. You must ensure that your client binding has cookies enabled. Otherwise, each request to the server will happen on a different session and your client will not work. If you use the default binding in the Experlogix.Services.WebConfigurator.Contracts.dll, this is handled automatically.
